UNIT 4: Preparation for Sport

 

This chapter gives an overview of how an athlete should prepare themselves physiologically, nutritionally and psychologically for sports events.  The different types of physical fitness and motor fitness will be examined together with methods of testing fitness levels.  Types of training to improve each area of fitness will be explored which will enable you to be able to devise a training programme for yourself or another sports performer.  Basic nutrition and healthy eating will be considered.  Lastly the psychology of the sports performer will be covered.

 

By the end of this chapter you will be able to:

  • Understand the fitness and lifestyle of an individual sports performer
  • Plan a simple fitness training programme for an individual sports performer
  • Understand the nutritional requirements of effective sports performance
  • Understand the psychological factors that affect sports training and performance

You need to write as much as possible on each of the four points above, explaining; describing; analysing; & evaluating each section.

  Chapter 1: The Body in Sport

This chapter explores the foundations of anatomy and physiology. It covers the structure and function of the skeletal system, the muscular system, the cardiovascular system and the respiratory system. The short and long term affects of exercise on each of these systems will also be explored. An outline of the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems will be given together with the energy requirements of a range of sports.

You will be given a number of sentances and you will have to comment on one from Q2 - Q6For example you will have to write about one of the question areas below.  Choose one of the areas that are comfortable for you nd write as much as you can about that topic.  Good luck.........

 

BTEC Sport Level 2 (Year 1) - UNIT 2 - Health, Safety & Injury in Sport

 Chapter 2: Health, Safety and Injury

Any person who undertakes a sporting activity will find that they are at risk of many different types of injuries. Therefore it is very important that people who take part in sports or wish to pursue a career in the sports industries have a good grasp of health and safety and are able to deal with a range of basic sports injuries.

 

This chapter will enable the learner to have a good understanding of health and safety and how they can take precautions in order to try to ensure sport and exercise participants avoid injury. Firstly the different types of injury and illnesses that can occur whist taking part in sports are explored.

Procedures which must be followed when dealing with an injury or illness for a range of people is then covered. Basic definitions of risks and hazards are examined which is then followed by ways in which people, equipment and environmental factors may contribute towards injury. Rules and regulations put in place in order to help minimise the risk of injury will be covered and then to complete the chapter, learners will learn why, how and when they should carry out a risk assessment and how to adapt it if necessary.

 

By the end of this chapter you will:

- Know the different types of injuries and illnesses associated with sports performance

- Be able to deal with injuries and illnesses associated with sports participation:

- Understand risks and hazards associated with sports participation

- Be able to undertake a risk assessment relevant to sport
