D201 (AltCampus 2006) A - Exercise database

EXERCISE DATABASE

You need to create a database to store information about different types of exercise.  This will be used to extratct useful information for the Exercise Check-up users.

The data you need is provided in this text fileYou can find out what the data items are by looking at this list.

  1. Design and build a suitable database structure to store the data.  Make sure that each field has:
    1. sensible name
    2. data type
    3. format
    4. length
    5. You must include simple validation rules where appropriate
  2. Now import the data.  If any records are rejected check that your validation rules are working properly.
  3. Add 2 new records to the database.

Save evidence of your database in your trial e-portfolio.  You must not put in the database itself.  Include screen prints of:
    1. Design view of table
    2. Datasheet showing new records

D201 (AltCampus 2006) B - Exercise Check-up

EXERCISE CHECK-UP

Introduction

You must create an onscreen Exercise Check-up FORM for students aged 11 and over. It should allow a user to enter data about the different types of exercise they do for each day for a week.

The Exercise Check-up should be a spreadsheet which analyses the data and tells the user whether they are:

  1. are taking part in a range of activities that promote a healthy lifestyle
  2. need to improve the balance of activities in their exercise regime

Users will need a printed data collection form to keep a record of what exercise they do for each day for a week.

Data Analysis

The Exercise Check-up needs to be constructed using a spreadsheet.

It must:

* only show information the user needs to see - no formulae

* only allow users to select the cells where they need to enter data, so you will need to protect certain cells.

TASK

Now complete the form yourself - put in some data that records your exercise regime for one week.

  1. Save your Exercise Check-up spreadsheet so that VALUES and FORMULAE are present.
  2. Save evidence of your printed results (could be a screen shot or pdf file) in your Trial Portfolio.

D201 (AltCampus 2006) C - Database Search

Database Search

Use the database to search for exercise types to improve your exercise regime.  For example you may need to burn more calories and, therefore, do a more stamina based exercise.

  1. Do two searches to find yourself suitable new exercises.
  2. Now prepare database reports for these two searches.  These need to be included in your Info. Pack.  You must:

    • Choose a suitable format
    • Use sensible headings
    • Include an image

Save the evidence of your search criteria for your trial portfolio.  Save the reports in your  trial portfolio.

D201 (AltCampus 2006) D - Exercise Choices Cards

Exercise Choices Cards

The Info. Pack must include two "Exercise Choices" cards that appear in your list of searches.

Each card should include a suitable image of the type of exercise as well as text information about that exercise.

The Exercise Choices cards must fit into an A5 size folder.

Save your Exercise Choices cards in your Trial Portfolio.

D201 (AltCampus 2006) E - Info Pack - Folder

Info Pack - Folder

You must produce a design for the Info. Pack folder. It must be relevant and appealing to students aged 11 and over. It should include some visual links with the pack content such as common colours, fonts or images.

  1. Use this template to help you design the front cover and inside flap. The other surfaces can be a plain colour. Your design must be to scale.

Download template

Save your design in your Trial Portfolio.

D201 (AltCampus 2006) F - Digital Posters

Digital Posters

You must produce a one sequence of three digital posters for young people aged  11. They must:

* run continuously in sequence on a screen

* be suitable for use on a large screen

* follow a specific outline for areas that must stay the same on all posters

* suggest suitable exercise regimes

* persuade younger students to try out your Exercise Check-up

The posters must be suitable for the target audience.

You must use this design outline for all three posters.

Save your posters in your trial portfolio.
