Route description

A motorist has stopped and is looking very lost.  They ask you  for directions using the 1:25 000 OS map sheet Number 163 (Gravesend & Rochester).

Start

1. You know that you are somewhere near Meopham, but you need to find exactly where you are on the map.

a.  You are standing beside a road sign that says Meopham railway station is 1 kilmometre away on the A227.

b.  You are standing on the A227 at a road junction. The smaller road leads to a small school off the west side of the road.

c.  You can just hear the noise of a large party coming from a country park to the east.

What is the grid reference of your current position? 

2.  The motorist asks for directions to the public house in Cuxton.  What is the symbol for a pub?

About how far would the motorist travel if they could go in a straight line? 

3.  Firstly, will you tell the driver to continue driving north or the A227 or to turn around and head south?  Secondly will the drivers first turn off the A227 head east, north west or south east? 

4.  Name at least three villages that the driver will pass through on the way to Cuxton. 

5.   The driver gets lost on their way to Cuxton.  They find a road sign which says that they at Harvel post office.  Briefly describe the things that they will see as they drive north along Dean Lane until they reach Lower Luddesdown.
